About Our Organization
Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to more than 1,400 college, high school and middle school campuses across the country and internationally. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States. We have accredited international programs on six continents with additional country programs under active development. Through mutually enriching friendships, Best Buddies volunteers gain a greater understanding of themselves and those with special needs. Through Best Buddies, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities secure rewarding jobs, develop leadership skills, live independently, and most importantly, make life-changing friendships. Together, Best Buddies participants build a more inclusive world, one friendship and one job at a time. Currently we work with over 4,500 participants through 59 high schools, 17 middle schools and 17 colleges in Massachusetts. Additionally, there are more than 100 people online with e-Buddies and 38 people receiving supported employment services through Best Buddies Jobs.
